A two-block strip of Fourth Street in Long Beach draws vintage lovers from all over Southern California and beyond. Locals call it Retro Row, and it includes a dozen or so shops selling vintage clothing, furniture and memorabilia. The shops are between Walnut and Junipero avenues, with most of them clustered on the east side closer to Junipero.

Just 25 miles northwest of Seattle and a couple of hours southeast of the Canadian border along the Puget Sound, lies an area known as Island County, Wash. Comprised of a group of islands and peninsulas, the area offers beautiful natural wonders, along with plenty of shopping and activities. Numerous lighthouses spotlight coastal points. Art and antiques flourish in quaint coastal communities. Boating, kayaking and other water sports abound.
Most of the action is centered on the islands of Whidbey and Camano, and just across the Sound in Port Townsend, Wash.

What's Up in Walnut Creek

Just 16 miles east of Oakland, Calif., in the east bay region of the San Francisco Bay area, lies the city of Walnut Creek. While the town has a cozy feel, it's known for owning more open space per capita than any other community in the state of California. In 1974, Walnut Creek voters approved a bond measure that allowed the city to purchase 1,800 acres of undeveloped hillsides, ridge lines, and park sites. While that makes it a great place to enjoy hiking, biking and other outdoor activities, the town also offers plenty of entertainment and shopping opportunities.

If you're looking for a great place to go "treasure hunting" this time of year in the Southwest, mosey on over to Mesa, Arizona. A Phoenix suburb in Maricopa County with a population of about 460,000, Mesa is the third-largest city in Arizona and the 38th-largest in the nation. It has plenty of antique and collectible dealers and they all offer a lot of variety.
